Cabo Pulmo Vivo, a natural protected area, finalist of Iniciativa Mexico, is threatened by a mega-touristic project. This project is working on developing and implementing a community-based strategy to gain authorities support. The project requires at the moment of business and biodiversity expertise.

The organization Friends for the Preservation of Cabo Pulmo has created a plan consisting in 4 stages:

2. Planning
3. Implementation

Cabo Pulmo is one of the richest ecosystems in the Gulf of California. It was declared a Natural Protected Area 15 years ago. This reef is internationally recognized as an example of marine conservation and community participation.

Cabo Pulmo was among the finalists of Iniciativa México in 2010. This campaign launched in Mexico by major media representatives to reward projects with a positive impact in their communities and in the Country.

However, its future is threatened by one of the most controversial tourist-residential projects of recent times consisting, among others, of more than 30,000 rooms (in hotels and homes), 3 golf courses, a marina and an airport.
